Internship for NPR’s Code Switch
Code Switch is an NPR podcast/radio show hosted by journalists of color. Releasing episodes weekly, the podcast describes itself as “tackl[ing] the subject of race with empathy and humor. We explore how race affects every part of society — from politics and pop culture to history, food, and everything in between.” Code Switch was also named the first-ever Apple Podcast’s “Show of the Year” in 2020.
From January 2022 through the end of April 2022, Nathan Pugh served as Code Switch’s intern. During his internship, Pugh:
Interviewed Dr. Rashida Z. Shaw McMahon for a bonus Code Switch episode and blog post on the Broadway musical A Strange Loop
Interviewed the three inaugural Code Switch Fellows (Kamna Shastri, Sam Yellowhorse Kesler, Isabeth Mendoza) internally on their experience with the team
Wrote three entries of the Code Switch newsletter:
“Tell us where you live…” - on the race discourse surrounding a NYC subway shooting (April 25, 2022)
“Can faith in the Supreme Court be restored?” - on the racial dimensions of the confirmation hearings of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson (March 27, 2022)
“Look who’s back! Back again!” - on race in the 2022 Oscar nominations (March 6, 2022)

Produced “Race and Romance” segment of “Code Switch Live”
